It could snow in Auburn next week, according to the National Weather Service Sacramento Office.

The reason for the potential snow: extremely cold air, by regional standards.

There is a chance of rain and snow from Monday evening, associated with cloudy skies and temperatures up to 32 degrees. Snow becomes more likely on Tuesday with more rain and temperatures reaching 39 degrees.

“I think we’re going to have to get a little bit closer to be more confident that something like this is likely – but I see some potential,” said meteorologist Eric Kurth of the National Weather Service Sacramento Office.

Kurth said that while snow is not uncommon in the area, it is rare and he encouraged residents of Auburn to keep abreast of the forecast as it develops early next week.
