DETROIT – Today is the last day of spring and he will feel every moment of this classic seasonal transition.
Skies will remain partly sunny for most of the day, with more sunshine after 4 p.m. This sun will help our high temperatures to reach the low and mid 80s.
The winds will help warm us up for the next couple of days, with a Monday breeze moving southwest at 6-13mph, gusting to 18mph at times. This wind will also blow around some of the pollen.
All in all, it will be a very nice Monday here with dry air for one last day.
Summer will arrive festively on Tuesday with more sun, heat and humidity, so get ready to sweat. Parts of western Michigan are already under an “air quality alert” on Monday as the heat will create labored breathing for some.
Sunset is at 9:13 p.m.
Summer starts Tuesday
The summer solstice officially hits at 5:13 a.m. Tuesday, signaling the start of summer in the northern hemisphere and bringing the most daylight and the shortest nightfall of the year.
We will have a beautiful sunrise after the solstice, and this sun will bring warmth with a little help. There is a large dome of high pressure and hot air moving in the middle of the country which will bring us warmer temperatures and more moistness as we head into the late morning and after -midday.
Tuesday’s highs could most likely reach the mid to high 90s. Humidity and a warming breeze moving SW at 7-15 mph, creeping 20 mph at times, will have it feeling 2-3 degrees warmer than those who are already high.
Chance of rain early Wednesday
A weak disturbance will roll over the Great Lakes early Wednesday, and computer models show a few possible scattered showers overnight and early Wednesday morning. This system will come with a cool front, but we won’t feel much cooler until Thursday – highs will likely remain in the lower 90s on Wednesday with increasing afternoon sunshine and some lingering humidity.
More comfortable weekend
The dew points went down on Thursday and Friday after the cool front in the middle of the week, which means that it will feel much better there.
We expect more sun to end the week of work with a mid -80 mid -80s and a lower humidity.
Although these are beautiful summer days at the pool or in our lakes, the grass and the garden don’t get much help from Mother Nature, so we will need these sprinklers this week. It looks like the highs are moving back into the 90s this weekend with some scattered showers, especially on Sunday.
