The South Carolina Midlands could experience severe storms with damaging winds on Wednesday, March 23.

Much of South Carolina, including all of the Midlands, could experience severe weather later this week.

According to a Monday morning briefing from the National Weather Service, there is a risk of severe weather Wednesday and Wednesday evening.

The NWS said showers and thunderstorms were expected before a cold front on Wednesday.

“A few storms can turn severe, producing damaging gusts of wind, large hail and possibly isolated tornadoes,” the NWS said. briefing said.

In addition to wind and stormy conditions, the NWS notes that downpours are likely to lead to localized flooding in areas with poor drainage.

The weather service will likely issue another briefing on Tuesday about possible severe weather.
