Delhi News Live Updates: Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the 44th Chess Olympiad torch relay at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi Stadium on Sunday. Union Minister Anurag Thakur, Indian Chess Grandmaster Viswanathan Anand were also present. More than 2,000 chess players from 188 countries will take part in this Olympiad.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday inaugurated the main tunnel and five underpasses of the Pragati Maidan integrated transit corridor project, which is an integral part of the Pragati Maidan redevelopment exercise. The Pragati Maidan Integrated Transit Corridor Project was constructed at a cost of over Rs 920 crore and is fully funded by the central government. It aims to provide smooth and hassle-free access to the new world-class exhibition and convention center being developed at Pragati Maidan to facilitate the participation of exhibitors and visitors to the programs taking place there. The highly anticipated tunnel and six underpasses that are part of the project are expected to ease the movement of 1 lakh commuters.

Meanwhile, even as the incidence of Covid continues to remain high in the capital with 1,534 new cases recorded on Saturday, hospitals say there is no need to increase the number of beds reserved for treating the infection as hospitalizations continue to be low. The number of ongoing active or infected cases has risen to 5,119, however, just over 200 people are in hospital, according to the daily health bulletin released by the government.
